Canada Soccer has filed a written complaint with FIFA over the abuse hurled out at goalkeeper Milan Borjan when Canada played Croatia.
Canada ended up losing 1-4 against Croatia which also sealed their fate and stop them from heading to the round of 16.
Milan Borjan Faces Abuse From Croatian Fans
Milan Borjan who has played 71 times for Canada migrated to Canada from Serbia in 1995 when he was 15 years old. His family migrated during the time when Croatia invaded Serbia and many Serbs fled out on tractors.
Croatia fans who know their history brought in a flag of US tractor manufacturer John Deere, changed the marketing slogan on the flag and targeted Milan Borjan. The abuse got worse during the second-half of the game when Milan Borjan was tending goal directly behind these fans.
Canada Soccer expressed its disgust and disappointing at the abuse Milan Borjan had to face during the game and asked FIFA to explain why these fans were allowed to bring in such props and get away with such behaviour. Canada Soccer has also asked for a formal apology and for FIFA to clarify how they will stop such behaviour from occurring in the future.
