Soccer is the sport of stamina; perhaps strength that players show playing in the outdoors. FIFA world cup has ever been the biggest soccer event; hence every player wants to make it sure that he misses nothing of it. Ever since FIFA has allowed Qatar to host 2022 world cup, there have been consistence demands from every part of the world to make sure it is played in winters there, coz in this part of the world; there is an extremely high temperature outside which could be dangerous for players. Until now, FIFA did not show any response on these demands, but now, it has made it clear that if it belongs to players’ health and temperature is really that high there, it can think of postponing the tournament to winters. Likewise, emirate has asked the governing body to make a call to shift the mega event. According to FIFA General Secretary, Jerome Valcke, executive committee could soon decide about this coz as per historical data maximum temperature there would be 104 which could lead to serious skin injuries to players.
Earlier, Qatar has proposed to convert all stadiums into fully air conditioned but that option was also sidelined by FIFA President Sepp Blatter citing it would be more dangerous for fans / players to adjust between outside and inside heat around the match venues. Moreover, it would lose the sense of the game to play inside closed atmospheres. However, CONCACAF, the governing body of North and Central America and the Caribbean football has argued to play the event in the month of June as it has always been happening. Its President Jeffrey Webb said, “Historically, the World Cup is always played in June and I would definitely like the World Cup to be played in June, we accepted it.We went through a long process regarding that.”
FIFA General Secretary Valcke also added, “As long as we have not fixed the international calendar (for 2019 to `22) all alternatives are open. The most important thing is to make sure work with all stakeholders and make sure there is full agreement with all parties, leagues, clubs, and we would have to find eight weeks in the mid-season to play the World Cup.”
There is one more problem with moving the schedule, and that is, if it is shifted to be played in winters, it would clash with European league and EPL. So, it would be a tough task for FIFA to keep everybody happy.
