One of the biggest football clubs: FC Barcelona is trying to sign a revised contract for its star midfielder Xavi. Reportedly, the new contract would tie their long standing relationship even stronger as both Barcelona and Xevi are equally excited to their new and extended contract terms. Notably, the existing contract between these two has not been expired yet coz there are whole two years left in its termination, yet Barcelona is eager to sign a new contract probably to sign him for a longer period. Xavier Hernandez aka Xavi is the most admired Spanish footballer who usually plays as a central midfielder for Spain’s national football team and FC Barcelona. Xavi has many achievements to his name including being an only Spanish player to win the highest number of trophies than any other Spanish player in the history. Even FC Barcelona has won many titles having Xavi as its midfielder, like Copa del Rey, Primera Division, Spanish and the UEFA Super Cup, Champions League, and European Championship.
Xavi has spent his entire career with FC Barcelona so he would surely want to carry with it till his last match of football career, and for that; Barcelona is willing to pay him his deserving fees too. Ivan Corretja, the agent of Xavi has confirmed this news of contract extension and said, “Last Friday the club sent us its intention to renew the contract because they want Xavi to sign a new deal, given that the current one ends in 2014.”
He further added, “Therefore it is normal that we begin to talk about these issues because in June it would be too late.”
However, he did not specify the expected length of the new contract but according to speculations it would secure him till his retirement which is not too far away now. According to Ivan Corretja, he doesn’t see any problem in finalizing a fresh deal, he said, “We have always agreed in previous talks and there have never been problems of any kind. For the player it is very important to know that the club remains confident in him. Therefore I do not think there is any problem.”
At the moment, FC Barcelona is leading the leaderboard with its top position alongwith 15 points, and as always it is the favorite team to win this season too. Xavi could have a perfect gift in store for Barcelona if club wins the current La Liga series and Xavi got his contract extended with lucrative terms!
