Final leaderboard rankings of current EPL season have almost been finalized, so it’s time to reevaluate the performance of each club in the league along with which official or player has been the biggest cause of defeat for his club. QPR is one of the few teams who could not win too many matches, perhaps their overall performance in the league was not impressive either and that is why they were relegated last week after their 0-0 draw with Reading. Tony Fernandes, the Malaysian businessman, who happens to be the chairman of QPR, has now been blaming his bosses for exploiting him throughout his stay of around two years at Loftus Road. Notably, he joined the club back in August 2011 and could never sustain any significant achievement on the pitch though he spent some mouthwatering amounts for buying his favorite players like Shaun Wright-Phillips, Djibril Cisse, Anton Ferdinand, Bobby Zamora, Christopher Samba and Loic Remy. In fact, last two were too expensive with their combined price tally of £20.5m. Actually, he did not see any miracle in the making from his team either and that is why he recently said, it would take around two to three more seasons to make an impressive run at EPL. He also accepted that Joey Barton loan spell to French club Marseill was their biggest mistake.
He said about Barton that “We missed Joey. We needed a workhorse midfielder and we tried to get Scott Parker. We missed a real leader. We tried to get Michael Dawson. This has been a tragic season in many ways. It is a Shakespearean play in the making.”
He somehow also blames himself to let himself exploited at the club, but now he seems to be keen for not doing same mistakes again. He added, “I don’t think I will be exploited any more. I think I allowed myself to be exploited but that’s my choice.”
“Agents are trying to get the best contracts and there are no two ways about it, I had to pay premiums. I’ve seen all of the parts that make football quite – maybe immoral is a strong word – but they would sell their grandmother to do something. It’s all part of the football ecosystem.”
So, he now understands it is not all about buying big priced players to win at EPL, perhaps what does matter is how you improve gradually in the series coz it is not a one-night affair to cheer about.
