Uruguay under-20 starlet Guillermo Varela is not on his feet these days after knowing the interest of EPL Champions in him. Perhaps, he is among the youngest players to be signed by the United this summer. Actually, every club is keeping its eyes on the emerging young talents and trying to secure them only for themselves; we have seen this already that how Barcelona, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and AC Milan have done this, and now ManU is also trying to fill its portfolio with promising youngsters. The deal is quite surprising looking at Varela’s experience playing in the senior team; perhaps he has only played one match for senior team and now becomes a United’s man. Complete details are not available at the moment, but according to some insiders, player is expected to receive £1million initially with an escalation clause that could surge this figure to £2.5m. Looking at the high rising demands of top players these days, these kinds of ‘petty’ investments are more a strategic step rather a move to strengthen their teams, coz not all of these players would be able to improve enough to match the EPL champions’ requirements, still it is a life changing move for Guillermo Varela.
Despite lacking senior experience, Varela has played enough matches for under-20 teams, perhaps he is in the Turkey’s national team for upcoming Under-20s World Cup. David Moyes, who joined Manchester United after retirement of Alex Ferguson, has signed his first man after coming to Old Trafford. Penarol’s – Varela club – representatives are scheduled to make a visit to Manchester to complete the formalities regarding this deal, and to make it clear whether the player will be loaned back to them for the next season, which looks to be a possibility at the moment. Penarol club treasurer Rodolfo Catino recently tweeted informing about their call to Manchester, he said, “In Sao Paulo airport waiting for the connection to London, with Guille about to board. The deal has been agreed, we now have to discuss some points, there won’t be any percentage regarding any future transfer. The deal can be as much as 2.8million Euros. Guille will adapt quickly to Manchester.”
Varela also talked about his deal with United, he said, “I will have a medical on Friday and on Saturday I join the Uruguay Under-20 national team. I will have to learn English, Rodolfo Catino taught me something, the structure is impressive.”
