Missing out on big matches often cost clubs their ambitious players, and it happens more aggressively around summer or winter transfer windows. The EPL club: Tottenham, who recently missed to make it to Championships League, has Brazilian Leandro Damiao into their dream list of players for this summer, but when they could not qualify for the CL, it was believed that player would now be interested in another club where he can get good exposure of big soccer events. But on the contrary, Damiao now says that he still wants to join Spurs if his club officially allows him to do so. Actually, the Brazil international, who is also in his national side for upcoming world cup qualifier against England, was in the target list of White Hart Lane club since last 18 months but everytime they tried to initiate an offer, something otherwise happened. Even this time, they were sure, until their failure to finish among top four in the EPL, that they would certainly capture their desired player, but now, after Damiao’s admission, they can again bid for the striker.
Whether Damiao would himself request his club to allow a move, he said, “I know of Tottenham’s interest in me but I am happy to wait until the president of my club lets me know something official. I would prefer to play in a team that is in the Champions League, but the most important thing is that they share the same ambition that I have.”
Being a Brazilian from heart, and despite being an aspirant of an English club, he also believes Brazil has the strongest chance to keep the world cup with them while talking about England, he also doesn’t see any threat from English team – like Neymar. He said talking about probable winner of the upcoming world cup that “I don’t see that there is any reason to fear England at the World Cup. Brazil always expect to win the World Cup – and even more so when it is being staged in our own country. And when you look at the nations who are a threat to us doing that, we don’t see England as one of them. Spain have dominated lately and Germany are clearly also a very powerful team. They are the teams who I think will be our major competition. I do not rate England to be anywhere near that level.”
He further added, “The Premier League is one of the best in the world – but maybe that does not help England. It is a very rich league and clubs can afford to buy the best players in the world. Here in Brazil there is a big emphasis on developing players that maybe you don’t get in England.”
