It is a natural human phenomena that an individual habitually becomes loyal to someone he loves the most, it even holds true in professional soccer where top officials are always biased towards their favorite team irrespective of what other teams are willing to offer them or what would be their career prospects if they join someone else. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is one such person who has always been biased towards his London club. He, in fact, had to leave the club back in 2007 citing some misunderstandings with club owners, but still he always wanted to be at Stamford Bridge. Recently, his wish came true and he re-joined his ever wanted club on a four-year term, but now he revealed that he had several good offers from some top notch clubs but he picked Chelsea sidelining clubs like Manchester United. He claims; he knew well in advance that Sir Alex Ferguson is going to retire; perhaps he was being linked for a United’s makeshift by the media, but he rejected an offer to join EPL champions for Blue Lions. This is something not easily believable coz United is the one place which has always been a dream club for every aspiring soccer player or official, hence any such revelation by a notable soccer personality deserves an attention.
What he said about his ‘awareness’ about a high profile vacancy at United is “I knew that Ferguson was retiring many months ago. I would have turned down every job in the world – the Manchester United job, everyone – for Chelsea. I am so happy with his trust because it was big news for the world – I can imagine that just a very small circle around him knew that, and it was a big responsibility for me to know that. Why do I know that? Because we are friends, so if I am his friend to know that he is going to retire, he is also my friend to know that the club I want to coach in England is Chelsea. Of course I told him I want to come to Chelsea. I would turn down every job in the world for Chelsea.”
Actually, Mourinho has been a proven performer for Blues winning them two back to back EPL titles during his first spell with them; hence he knew he would be treated more courteously at Chelsea than United, however, he never said anything is unpleasant at Old Trafford. He also warned his teammates to prepare for a tougher training session from July to formulate a toughest squad for the next EPL session.
