Once EPL season starts, every club tries to keep itself busy and in the headlines for one reason or another. Southampton, a south coast based club, has won its opener in the current season defeating West Brom by a late penalty goal, and now they are again strengthening their army by enforcing more meat into it. Reportedly, St Mary based club has signed Roma forward Pablo Osvaldo on a four year deal. The deal is said to be taken place on Sunday though it was in discussion for quite some time now. Osvaldo actually has been one of the key targets of many league clubs off late including Manchester City and Tottenham, but deal was finally cracked by Southampton at a repotted figure of 15.1 million euros with a clause to rise by 2 million euros if player performs well. This would not be the first time; Osvaldo will play under Pochettino mentorship, coz both of them have already played together for Espanyol. The old relations between 27-year-old striker and Southampton manager contribute in player’s favor otherwise he would have still been playing for Serie A club. In reality, Osvaldo had a clash with Roma coach Aurelio Andreazzoli in the last season after their Italian Cup final defeat, and from that point, it was confirmed that he would not be at Olimpico next season.
Southampton has shown its aggressiveness by signing three players in few months, i.e., they already have defender Dejan Lovren and midfielder Victor Wanyama into their A-team, and now, an Argentinian forward is also added as a cherry to their cake. As far investment is concerned, Saints has spent more than 45 million on three new entrants which is not a big amount for three world class players. Club informed about their new signee via an online statement that says, “Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Italy striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. Osvaldo today agreed terms on a four-year contract with Saints and moves from Serie A side AS Roma. The frontman is expected to be available for next Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game against Sunderland at St Mary’s, and will be officially presented as a Southampton player tomorrow.”
Saints is on the seventh place in the current Premier League rankings, and its next match is against Sunderland on August 24th where Osvaldo is most likely to be in the squad. Anyway, let’s see how a descent investment pays to the club in a long run.
