Soccer is always considered a money rolling game where everyone seems to be running after it. It holds true for everyone, including players, officials, and even fans, but there are some rare incidents where these prevailing theories hold incorrect, like in case of Brazilian midfielder Kaka who plays for Serie A club AC Milan. He got injured on Saturday in his first competitive match for his new Italian club after spending four years in Spain playing for Real Madrid. His adductor muscle injury initially seemed not so serious, but for further investigations, he went for advance diagnostics processes and waiting for reports. These reports will confirm how much time he would require to fully recover, until then; he will not take his salary from San Siro club. He said after sustaining an unintended injury, “Yesterday was a tough day for me as I found out about my injury. I certainly didn’t expect this type of injury at this time. It has been hard and difficult. I spoke to the club a lot yesterday, to Galliani and to the doctors to decide on a few things.
“I have decided that I don’t want anything from Milan except their support and affection. Until I am fit again and ready to play, I have decided not to receive my wages. I have already started the recovery process. The affection I have felt in recent days gives me the added motivation to get fit as soon as possible.”
His decision made more news than those who fight for their salary and came into the headlines. As far Milan’s Championship League campaign in concerned, this could be a further blow for them coz they are playing their first match of the European season on Wednesday against Celtic. Head coach Massimiliano Allegri has had several plans keeping in mind Kaka but after his sudden absence made him short of choices as both Riccardo Montolivo and Andrea Poli are also not available for the Champions League showdown. Actually, Milan is missing good players across every important position; may it be forward points, midfield area, or defense; hence Kaka could have been a trump card for them.
The 31-year-old Brazilian said about his salary refusal, “In the end I decided that I don’t want anything from Milan except for love and support until I am better, until I am fully fit and ready to play again. For this reason, I have decided to suspend my current pay for this period of time. The only thing I ask is for support and help to recover properly.”
