It has now become a fashion in soccer that players start issuing statements that they want to leave their clubs and gained lots of media headlines, but suddenly, something happens in the background and they changed their mind overnight and start issuing completely otherwise statements that they are now happy with their clubs – reasons could be anyone. We have seen this with lots of players including Liverpool’s Suarez who has long been talking about his fed up with the English club but now happy staying there. This time, we are not talking about him, we are talking about Manchester United’s dissenting forward or what should we say center back, who has been a player looking for a second home during Sir Alex Ferguson’s regime but after his retirement and Moyes’ takeover, he seems to be changing his mind. Reason for his earlier dissent has been unfavorable position former manager was playing him, since he loves to play in the forward line, he was losing his touch. Moyes’ changed his positing by moving him slightly forward in the attacking line which made him happy and satisfied now.
As far his longevity at Old Trafford is concerned, there is no hint he will get a contract extension, hence he is safely assuming two years is time he is in England, however, nothing is confirmed as United is known for its last minutes signings. Any ways, at the moment, 27-year-old English football is cool and calm for his confronting media statements; perhaps he is now favoring his stay with the league champions. He said about his uncertainty, “You can clearly see I’m playing and I’m happy in my football. David Moyes has come in, he’s playing me up front, and I’m enjoying it. I’ve had no problem playing out of position in the past, but I’m a forward and I felt I deserved the right to play in my position.
“That wasn’t happening. Naturally I was a bit disappointed and maybe that affected some of the games I played because last season wasn’t my best. Everyone at the club knew where I wanted to play. Maybe I will play in midfield when I’m a bit older if I have lost my legs a bit but I didn’t want to play there.
“I’m not saying I am going to throw my arms up in the air and not do it if we were hanging on a bit in the last 10 minutes of a game and I got asked to drop back. But there came a point where I had to be a bit selfish for my own career.”
