It was rather a sad day for League defender Manchester United when they were deprived to score full points out of their clash with Cardiff City. Had they score full points out of this game, they would have been in the top four in the leaderboard – a step that could take them further to defend their favorite silverware. The whole match was in control of Moyes’ army and they significantly demonstrated why they are different now, but unfortunately, in the last moments, South Korean midfielder Kim Bo-kyung’s injury-time equalizer leveled Cardiff City on the score card and deprived United to steal the show. David Moyes blamed several mistakes from their side that ultimately cost them an important win. It was like a replay of what happened with Old Trafford club back in October when Adam Lallana equalized the match with Southampton right in the 89th minute. Briefly, it was not an excellent show from a defending champion and Moyes knows it that is why he expressed his disappointment with the way his army performed at Cardiff City Stadium.
Since, it belongs to Manchester United – once baby of Sir Alex Ferguson – a comparison is obvious, in fact, this team has always been famous for scoring late goals under its former manager’s regime and imagine had they won both these games, they would have been on the top two in the leaderboard. But, anyway, they are now at sixth place in the leaderboard and much better than where they were few weeks ago. In spite of that Moyes openly accepted their failures and said, “I’m disappointed. It’s similar to Southampton where we had the game in our control with a minute to go and conceded from a set-piece. It’s cost us, ultimately.
“We don’t defend it well enough and the boy Whittingham puts in a really good ball. We were close but it’s now happened in two games, Southampton and this game, where we have lost points in the last minute. We’ve been on a pretty good run but that’s a blow because we can’t keep dropping points, two points in games when you’re where we are. We should have won it. I know we can play better but we should have won the game.”
United’s next league game is against Tottenham on Dec 1 but before that they also need to play with Bayer in Champions League Group Stage on November 28, so they have sufficient time to evaluate why they could not capitalize in the last moment and plan accordingly. In any way, fans expect something more energetic from this all-time favorite league club.
