Firing a non performing manager is not an English premier league specialty as other domestic leagues also follow the same practice if anyone is not at par with their expectations. Yes, we are talking about a Spanish football club Real Betis who plays in the Primera Division and La Liga and has been passing through a disastrous era. They are almost fighting for their relegation survival thanks to an awful performance this season where they have lost six out of eight played games earning them just 10 points until now. Like everywhere else, manager Pepe Mel is being taken as the main culprit and sacked from his three and a half year old job. Former Villarreal and Club Brugge coach Garrido has been called upon for his temporary replacement and to serve the managerial duties until the end of current season while a hunt is on for a permanent substitute at Benito Villamarin. Garrido has been a known personality in Spain with his proven track record where he took Villarreal to the forth place in domestic league along with qualifying them to the Champions League back in 2011. His decades old experience could bring a smile back on the faces coz fans have almost lost any hope to survive from the relegation zone.
Seville club informed about top managerial change via a site statement where they said, “Juan Carlos Garrido is the new coach of Real Betis until the end of the season. The club hope that this decision gives the team the boost it needs to return to winning ways.”
Notably, Mel became the victim of some autocratic assessments at the top, otherwise his performance in last few seasons has been not so bad, in fact, if we compare his achievements to that of any English club, he has done a decent job qualifying Betis to the La Liga for the first time where they ended their first ever season at 12th place –not bad for any debutant. Club also acknowledged his contribution in recent years and added, “The club would like to thank the coach for these years of commitment and dedication, in which he has overseen a project that led Betis out of the Segunda Division and into Europe. The work of his assistants Roberto Rios and David Gomez is also appreciated.”
Mel also addressed a press conference where he shared his experiences residing with Verderones and thanked fans for their continuous support throughout his stay at Seville.
