Tim Sherwood, who was appointed as the temporary coach last week after the dismissal of Villas-Boas, has got his contract converted into a final one. He would now serve on the top position until 2014-15; earlier it was being predicted that someone else would be brought at Enfield, but thanks to his brilliant show in the match against Southampton, Sherwood got a full time appointment at the league club. The former England midfielder has been associated with Spurs as a player back in 1999 when he was shifted from Blackburn; in fact, he had an important contribution for Blackburn that win them EPL title in 1995. Even thereafter, he served various clubs on several managerial positions, including serving as the member of coaching staff under the mentorship of Harry Redknapp. Actually, his appointed is the result of dismissal performance from Lilywhites this season where they could only win two out of seven played matches so far under Andre Villas-Boas supervision. Obviously, he would have to continue his winning streak he showed on Sunday to gain a significant place on the leaderboard otherwise no one knows when he would be the history at league club.
However, at the moment club bosses are showing their extreme confidence over his ability, in fact, chairman Daniel Levy said via club website, “We believe Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward. We were extremely reluctant to make a change mid-season, but felt we had to do so in the club’s best interests.
“We have a great squad and we owe them a head coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season. We are in the fortunate position of having within our club a talented coach in Tim Sherwood.”
Some insiders are calling it a result of persisting pressure from new coach to have an appointment on a permanent basis. Sherwood replied on these rumors and said, “What would be ideal for me would be to have a chat with the chairman and see what’s best for the football club moving forward. I need to know what they’re thinking. I don’t want this job for five minutes. That’s no interest to me. Are we going to move it forward or not? It’s a massive club with history and tradition. But whatever happens needs to be right for me, too.”
