Senegalese footballer, who has been a free agent for quite some time, has finally got a job – though for a short term only. Birmingham City Football Club has recently confirmed his signing for around a month’s period. Diop was engaged in training of Blues for last few weeks, and he now decided to shift to Birmingham. For that, he has already passed his fitness test and applied for a working Visa, and if he could get one; he will surely be seen playing for Birmingham City for at least one month. Earlier in his career, Diop has already played in three seasons for Fulham from 2004 to 2007 and then he moved to Portsmouth in 2008. He made Portsmouth won FA cup that season. On international level too, he has represented his nation four times in Africa Cup and contributed Senegal’s journey to the quarter finals of 2002 FIFA world cup held in South Korea and Japan. He is running his 35th year of age, and so in general term, he is reaching to his retirement age. For that matter, his loan sign up with Birmingham City can bring some good news for him by which he can probably extent his career further if he could perform well for them.
Birmingham City manager Lee Clark denied the playing chances of their 19 years old loan signee Ravel Morrison, coz in some sections of media, it is being circulated that after Diop, Birmingham City no longer needs Morrison. Clark said, “I had a good chat with Ravel this week. He knows where he wants to be and he knows how he’s got to get there. We brought him in because he’s a talented young man, but there’s more than talent that gets you in the team.” Perhaps, he made it clear that City still has a space for a young and talented player like Morrison.
Anyways, for Diop, the major concern at the moment is getting a working Visa, so he could move to City and be engaged with his long waiting assignment. In the past too, his career has always been with many ups and downs, hence his last few years are expected to be smoother than his past experience. In last season, he was with West Ham and promoted them for Premier League, so he has the experience and skills to count some wins for Birmingham City this season.
