Rodgers shuns Reina chances to return in the team

February 28, 2014 by 888Scoreonline

Soccer fraternity is a kind of strange one for everyone including players who have been a part of it since many years. Further, there are many untold regulations being followed by every playing team and one such rule of the game is if you are growing by age and not performing as expected by your bosses, you will soon be axed from the team either via letting your contract expire or by switching you to somewhere else on loan. The 31-year-old Spanish goalie Pepe Reina is one such player who is under contract with English club Liverpool, but since he could not prove his form to be the number one goalie, he had to leave Anfield for Naples where he spent one season under Rafael Benítez, former high profile Chelsea manager. He then appreciated Benitez and openly called him the best manager to have worked with. Though, he had already guessed that his loan spell will never let him return back to England hence also written a goodbye letter to Liverpool fans, but still, he used to be an optimistic to come back one day and play for Brendan Rodgers, but bad news to him, Northern Irish football shut downs all doors by refusing any comeback of Spanish footballer.

His current contract runs until 2016, therefore, he still has more than two full years to enjoy association with The Invincibles, but after recent statement from club bosses, he would either have to stay on loan or sit outside the field at least for some time or until he finds a space in the team. Everyone knows former Sunderland goalie Simon Mignolet is currently the number one goalkeeper for league club and Reina’s chance to play in the team will be decided by Belgian footballer’s fitness. If he still not finds any place, he would be sold out to secure some cash. Rodgers talked about him to a newspaper where he said, “He’s already written his letter, hasn’t he? He wrote a goodbye letter, didn’t he?

“I was surprised at the letter. When you are a loan player, I would expect that he should come back, but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move. He penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he’d worked with and thanked him for his time for Liverpool. So, for me, it probably sounded like he’d made his decision there.”
