Despite being in the news off late for not so wanted reasons, ace Barca striker Lionel Messi yet again breaks another record and becomes the highest goals scorer for his club. This feat is incredible considering more than a century old history of Spanish giant. The achievement has until been hold by Filipino–Spanish footballer Paulino Alcántara who played for some fifteen years for the Blaugrana and scored 369 goals from 1912 to 1927. In fact, his dream record stood unbeaten for as many as 87 years and now a 26-year-old has broken it with flying colors. Looking at the career graph of Messi, he can still play for another eight to ten years, which means, he would be in the best position to set another record which would remain unbeaten for another 100 years! However, if we look at the strike rate of these legendries, Argentine took 95 more games than his predecessor but this is because of today’s culture of playing more games than fifty years ago and not to forget it takes more fitness and stamina to play more matches per season than what it used to be earlier. Apart from this, Messi can also become the first player to score more than nineteen goals against their arch rivals Real Madrid as he has scored some eighteen and next game with The Vikings could be the showdown to watch for.
His former countryman, one of the greatest players of all time, Alfredo Di Stéfano currently holds the highest clasico goal scoring record with nineteen goals. Messi broke Paulino’s record when he scored a hat trick against Osasuna which they eventually won with an impressive 7-0 margin. Like how he has done this in the past, he informed the world and thanked the fans using his Instagram account and posted his image wearing the same suite he wore Ballon d’Or ceremony earlier this year.
Here are the some congratulation massages that roared in via Tweeter after his feat:
Cristian Tello, his teammate, said, “7-0 against Osasuna, I’m happy to help the team. Congratulations Leo for being the top scorer in the history of the club!”
Another Barca player Javier Alejandro Mascherano amazingly appreciated his achievement and loudly said, “Congratulations Leo Messi. Top scorer in the history of FC.Barcelona. Awesome!!”
Last few months could have not been the memorable for 26-year-old Argentine footballer, but now he would have been feeling top of the world and why not after all he is Lionel Messi!
