Croatian international Lovren joins Liverpool at £20 million

July 29, 2014 by 888Scoreonline

Liverpool seems to be hyper active during this summer transfer window that is why they have until hired five new players including three from Southampton. Although, all of them are being taken to the Anfield at rather a reasonable price tag still it is uncommon these days to see someone is so hungry for fresh talent. In a recent development, 25-year-old Croatia international Dejan Lovren has signed a four-year contract with the Brendan Rodgers’ side at reported 20 million pounds figure. The deal could only crack down after QPR striker Loic Remy failed to pass the medical.

If we look at the last premier league season, Liverpool had been the only team among the top four to concede fifty goals and keeping that loophole in mind, Rodgers top priority this season had been strengthening their defensive line. As far Lovren is concerned, he played all three matches for his national side in Brazil recently and his show lured the Northern Irish football coach to sign him as soon as possible. What forty-one-year old told on the club website after finalizing the deal, is, “This is a very important signing for us and I’m delighted it’s completed so Dejan can join up with us on our US tour. He is a commanding and powerful presence and clearly has leadership skills, which is important; he fits the profile of player we are looking for.

“He is still relatively young, so his peak years are ahead of him and I believe he will improve and progress even further with us. I’m looking forward to him arriving and working with us as we continue our preparations for the new season.”

Croatia international went through the medical test at on Saturday and recalled his memories playing at Afield during a league game between Southampton and Liverpool that was won by The Saints with just one goal. He expressed his pleasure over the joining The Invincibles via club post where he said, “It’s a dream come true. I’m happy and glad to be here. I’m proud and can’t wait to start. I know we have millions and millions of supporters — Liverpool is more than a club.

“After I played at Anfield last season, I said to myself: ‘One day I hope I’ll be able to play here for Liverpool.’ The fans will know from the first minute that I’m a player that will give 100 percent on the pitch.”
