Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to fast track Suarez appeal

July 26, 2014 by 888Scoreonline

After getting lots of space in the sports headlines all over the world, Luis Suarez is ready to rule the court proceedings as well. Yes, according to the news coming from Uruguay, Football federation, who had appealed the Court of Arbitration for Sport to hear Suarez case on fast track, could listen the final verdict on third biting episode by the player of the year any time before the beginning of next Spanish season. It is a well-known fact that Suarez has recently shifted from Liverpool to Barcelona with a hefty 75 million price tag despite having been abandoned by the FIFA for four months for biting Italian player Giorgio Chiellini in a world cup match last month. Later, Spanish giant forced Uruguay’s football federation to fasten the process of his appeal so they could use him in the next domestic season. Initially, after FIFA disciplinary committee refused to set aside their earlier decision, it looked like a final verdict but after CAS agreed to listen the case during the second week of August and more importantly they agreed to run it over a fast track court, fans expect his ban would certainly be shortened if not lifted by international sports arbitration court.

Notably, if court finds nothing admissible in the defense being presented on player’s behalf, he would have to go through the entire four months period out of the field or in other words; his first match would possibly be against Real Madrid on Oct 26 if television broadcasters agree on the rescheduled dates. The ban is significant coz it restricts former Liverpool player to impart in any football related activity including participating in training session or even attending the matches, in fact, he was not allowed to attend the news conference held to announce his switch from England to Spain.

Under present conditions, the infamous biter is getting support from all over the world including his colleagues like Iniesta, who is confident his ban would be reduced by the court. What he said is, “(Sauraz) a tremendous signing for us (Barca) because of his quality, but the other thing is something for the club, the courts and FIFA to deal with. We hope that can be resolved and that the ban is reduced as much as possible.

“Right now he’s one of the best strikers in the world, and he will bring to us that ambition he has to score goals, his willingness to work hard, that mobility that characterises him. It’s fundamental for a midfielder to have a player with those characteristics in the team.”
