Growing age has ever been a big problem for players even if they have had a star status in their golden years. Today, the competition is very tough even for the youngsters and that is why most of the sides often part their ways from growing players, but for former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, 36 years of age is just the beginning. He not only played an important role in City’s emphatic 7-0 win over Sheffield on Wednesday but also ensured Manuel Pellegrini is not going to rest him for next few games. Notably, central midfielder was brought into the Manchester on one season loan from New York City FC by manager Pellegrini to backup other players like Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, and Fernando, but he later expressed his desires to be a permanent teammate for the League defenders and then Chilean manager reportedly asked to perform regularly if he wants to be an integral City mate. Talking about his age and what he now means for the Citizens, 61-year-old said in a press conference, “For me it is never difficult to put a good player in a team. I always say the problem is when you don’t have the players. I think it’s very important for Frank to score again today.
“I said after the game against Chelsea he is a very important player for our team. He is now 36 years old and maybe he cannot play three games in a row, but he continues knowing how to play this sport and Frank is a top player in that sense.”
In other words, he clearly informed Lampard that he can’t play three consecutive games for his growing age hence he should now enjoy his goodwill and try to minimize his field presence. Adding about why all seven goals came in the second half, Pellegrini said, “Maybe it was the change of attitude in the second half. I think that we were more aggressive. Also when Sheffield played with one player less it was easier for us. But the minutes when we scored the four first goals is the way the team must play and the best reward is playing that way, more than the amount of goals that you score.”
If we leave apart last Capital One Cup crushing triumph, EPL is still City’s most desired title, and over there, they are at number six after playing five games, hence manager does not want to risk anything even if he requires using only the young talent instead of grown ones. So, let’s see whom he plays in the next league games!
