Every young player who has had a promising form in the recent past becomes the eye candy for his aspirants and for that reason most of the high profile clubs keep in touch with him on and off the record. Liverpool’s 20-year-old Jamaican forward Raheem Sterling is one such player who has recently been on the radar of several sides and since his contract is also expiring at Anfield soon, his aspirants are positive to bring him into their den, but things can never be as smooth as they look. According to Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who is also interested in the forward, he could cost somewhere 100 million pounds to any side looking for him. This price may be way too beyond the paying capacity of many clubs, thanks to the FFPs, yet this could also be a move to keep Sterling out of the focus of others. Pellegrini has said this after taking great care of buying capacity of the City after selling James Milner whose contract is also expiring this summer. However, Chilean manager has not proposed his offer for the West Indian but he is surely aspiring for the young forward to straighten his forward line with homegrown talent.
Technically speaking, Pellegrini has offered an extension deal to Milner who is also a home grown player but no official statement has until been made the player so it looks unlikely 29-year-old would stay where he is at the moment. Talking about him 61-year-old City mentor said, “It would be very difficult to find a more complete player than Milner.
“There are players who are better technically. There are quicker players. There are players who head the ball better. But show me a player who does all the things that Milner does well and there isn’t one. And whatever position I put him in he plays well. It’s very difficult to find another Milner — an intelligent player, with big balls and a massive heart.”
While as far Sterling is concerned, Pellegrini is not very confident if they can manage the asking price Liverpool would possibly put over him should City decide to hunt him. He added, “It is important to have English players but can you sign them? You are talking about trying to sign players from clubs that won’t sell them.
“Can you get Sterling? Maybe if you go to Liverpool with £100 million you can.”
