Whenever a legendry manager, who has been leading a side for decades, decides to leave the game, it is a very special moment not for him but for his club as well who has been enjoying his brilliant guiding skills for so long and if we talk about English clubs there are only few mentors who could lead their sides for more than a decade. Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger is the next one after former Manchester United boss Alex to manage a side for around twenty long years. Emirate side is now passing through a tough phase since last couple of seasons and Wenger is not among the someone who runs away of his responsibilities that is why sensing the need for a change, 65-year-old Frenchman recently hinted to have been thinking of a retirement from the top club post. The longest running Emirate boss’ current contract is expiring at the end of the 2016-17 season and if we believe in recent media headlines, club owners could offer him another extension if he desires so. For the first time, clarifying his stand over further term residing at Emirates, Wenger talked about the issue in great length and breadth and said, “I am resolute to commit absolutely until the last day of my contract to bring back big success to this club, and leave as well one day in a position where it can do even better when I leave.
“That is for me very important that I leave the club in the shape that the guy who comes after me can do better. The responsibility on my shoulders is much bigger. I know what it means for people. I know how sad people are when we don’t do well, I know how sad people are when we lose a game.”
Accepting recent bad form of his side, he added, “I agree that the performances were not good enough. But we have played over 150 games in Europe. You have picked three performances that were not good enough. But if you look at the percentages of games won in Europe you will see Arsenal are in the top five. You speak about Monaco, but they lost against Juventus who went onto the final but they never deserved to lose to Juventus. They deserved to beat Juventus.
“I accept you have to be over-critical when the performances are not good, but look at number of games Arsenal played in Champions League before I arrived and look after, and come back to me.”
