Despite having been out of active English soccer, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is not willing to leave his habit of being in the news for his comments, appraisals, and aggressive statements. Likewise, he now says ex-England midfielder Frank Lampard is the best he has seen in decades. He talked about his best choice residing in England including the club he thinks is a stand apart and expectedly pointed Chelsea as the best team and Lampard as the best player. Mourinho is in Singapore these days where he is invited by the Singapore Olympic Foundation and during his brief at Singapore’s Northlight School he talked about his long running career and the sides and players he enjoyed being associated with. Alongside, he also revealed biggest disappointments of his career and ranked his failure in European titles as the biggest setback he ever faced leading a side especially when his side sailed towards the final only to miss the silverware. Talking about his managerial journey, 53-year-old Portuguese said, “I went to Inter, I had Ibrahimovic, I got Zanetti. I got to Madrid, I had Ronaldo. I come back to Chelsea and I find other top players.
“If have so many, they gave me so much, it’s not fair to say this is the one. It’s impossible to win so many things without the players so I respect all of them.”
Recalling the itching memories of not wining UEFA title despite reaching to the finals, he added, “I was lucky to be in the finals, but I also lost in the semifinals on penalties. I lost at Chelsea – Liverpool on penalties, I lost at Real Madrid – Bayern Munich on penalties too. When you lose the semifinals on penalties, you get the feeling that you did everything right and you are not lucky. I have these moments but I cannot complain because when you win twice, you have to accept that it’s part to lose two semifinals.”
Actually, Mourinho has been active in English media recently for his reported tie with Manchester United for a possible replacement of underperforming Van Gaal hence each of his media byte is being taken seriously since he may express his wish to collect new players for his new side. Anyways, recalling his fond memories leading Stamford Bridge side for the first time, former Everton boss said, “At Chelsea, in my first period, I had Frank Lampard, probably the best player in the Premier League for one decade. Who was my best player? It’s so difficult to say and I coached some of the best players in the world.”
