Kenny Morgans, who was commonly known as survivor of Munich air disaster happened in 1958, died at an age of 73. The former Manchester United’s winger died in a hospital where he was taken to after he complained of a sudden unwell feeling last Saturday night. Manchester United later issued its deep hearted condolences to his family and friends. United’s spokesman said in an issued statement, “Staff at the club send their deepest condolences to Kenny’s family and friends.” Kenny started his soccer career at an age of eighteen years when he played his first match for Manchester United against Leicester City in 1957. Later, he played 23 matches for his first ManU team. His lifetime survival came just two months after his debut when he travelled to Belgrade and his team’s plane crashed in Munich when returning after refueling. He was among few, perhaps youngster, who survived of that disaster; hence he is known as the fighter in soccer community. He found unconscious inside plan’s debris by two German journalists almost five hours after the search was called off. After recovering from his injuries, he went to Old Trafford in 1961 and played rest of his career for his native Wales along with Newport County in last few years of his career.
In 2008, he returned to Manchester United for 50th anniversary of Munich accident; perhaps he was a guest of honor at former Manchester United players’ dinner. Despite that fact he spent a large part of his career playing for his native Wales; he is still remembered as the Manchester United former winger who survived from Munich disaster. His long time associated with some of the big clubs and his descent in-field performances are still remembered, especially how he recovered from plane crash injuries and return to the field much earlier than expected.
He worked as a pub landlord for last few years of his life along with being a ship’s chandler, but most of his later part of life faced a dark era due to his prolonged illness that finally took him to the God on Saturday night! So, a soccer career that started when he left his school back in 1955 ended in 2012 that too coz of an ailment. Anyways, everybody seems to be mourning his death and remembering a survivor in ManU’s history. May his soul rest in peach!
