In a dramatic turnaround at La Liga, defending champion Real Madrid faces a shocking 1-0 defeat at Granada on Saturday pushing itself even further of the title. However, the match is more famous by its star striker Cristiano Ronaldo who could only find his own net to score the only goal of the match, it was his first own goal of the career. La Liga tally has become even more interesting by this surprising defeat of one of the strongest contenders of the title apart from leading Barcelona. Moreover, Barca has to play its next match with Valencia on Sunday and if they could win it, their lead to their arch rival will be widened to 18 points which would be even more difficult for Real to catch up. Looking at the Real performance in last few matches, it is rather shocking for its fans to see it losing by just one goal; perhaps at a time when they have scored nine goals in their last two league games. Ronaldo debacle did not come all of a sudden; he was suffering from ankle injury but somehow he could recover by the match and nobody had then imagined his taxing presence in the match would be more taxed to Madrid.
Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho has already given up his team chances to take the trophy home second time in a row, and after this defeat; he does not see any comeback chances for his team. Though, he praises his teams affords in the game; he said, “It was not a good game and we lost and I am responsible.
“I didn’t like the first half from the team, it was terrible. We improved after the break and we dominated. We had a chance to score but if we had taken it then the performance still wouldn’t have been sufficient.
“It was a big effort after playing on Wednesday and some teams have a day longer to recover but that is not enough to explain the display as we needed to respond.”
This defeat is the fifth for The Whites despite, they are on the third spot of the leaderboard – far behind of their arch rival Barcelona. Moreover, Mourinho also praises fighting till the end spirit by Granada who made it sure they will not let Real players equalize the lead. He added, “They did everything that they could to get this result. We should have scored a goal but because of the great effort that Granada made, I think that the three points have gone to the team that deserved them.”
