Manchester United secured its place in the FA cup’s quarterfinal by beating Reading in the pre-quarterfinal with a comprehensive margin. They beat Reading easily by 2-1 at Old Trafford on Monday. United, indeed, remained on the driver seat throughout the game, but it was Nani and Javier Hernandez who changed the result in its favor by scoring two quick goals. Reading is among the few clubs who are known for their rock solid defense and that is why Alex Ferguson men had to struggle to cross their net despite having in control throughout the match. There 2-1 victory over Reading took them to the quarterfinal where they will clash with the winner of Chelsea and Middlesbroug. The game was leveled until 69th minute when two prompt goals fired by Nani and Javier Hernandez within three minutes ensured their victory, though, Jobi McAnuff put some resistance and scored a goal in the 82nd minute but it was too late by then. Despite a comprehensive victory, ManU misses many chances to enhance their lead which eventually did not cost them coz Reading was nowhere close to tally their lead.
Actually, City was under pressure after their last draw against Real Madrid and that is why Manager Alex Ferguson has to make eight changes in the squad that played last match. After the match; he was quite a relieved man, perhaps he showed his pleasure by saying, “I’m satisfied with the quality of our play. We should have punished them better though. At 2-0 you are never comfortable. Nani deserved to be man of the match, his contribution was terrific. I had a feeling he would win the match for us. We are at home in the next round and we would take that against anyone.”
On the other hand, Reading is also not quite upset by their performance, Reading manager Brian McDermott told after the match, “We came to Manchester United and put on a good performance as well, and we’re disappointed not to be coming away with a result.” Moreover, he also praised his goalie’s performance in the match and said they could have lost by a bigger margin should he did not stop some of the finest shots fired to their net. Nani, who was not the member of playing eleven at start, joined the field after Phil Jones limped off after a tough tackle near the end of the first half. He said, “If I get my opportunity to come on I just want to enjoy the game and help the team. That’s what happened. That changed the game. And I’m so pleased to give one assist to and help the team.”
