Jupp Heynckes, the current manager of Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, is on the threshold of creating a milestone of its kind by participating in his 1000th game in the league. Bayern Munich upcoming clash with Werder Bremen will be his 1000th match while being in the league either as a player or as a manager. During his long running career, he played 369 matches as a player for both Borussia Monchengladbach and Hannover along with serving in 630 more games as manager of various clubs, like Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, Monchengladbach, and Schalke. At the moment, Bayern Munich is leading the tally in Bundesliga with its comprehensive lead than second placeholder Dortmund. Since, it has to play 12 more matches; it is surely the most favorite to be German champions this season. Its president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also acknowledged Heynckes’ role and said recently, “It is a big obligation but also a major responsibility for the team to ensure we complete the current season under Jupp Heynckes as successfully as possible. Now more than ever, we must finish as German champions.”
Obviously, Rummenigge wants to achieve as many successes as possible under Heynckes’ mentorship. Actually, Heynckes has been one of the most successful managers in Bundesliga winning 310 matches – just less than Otto Rehhage, who has won 391 matches, and Hennes Weisweiler, who has won 312 matches as manager. He also has some 174 wins as a player. His achievements have placed him in the target list of many high profile clubs, like Arsenal. According to a famous football pundit Robbie Savage, he is an ideal substitute for Arsene Wenger, and if it happens; there would more open space for him to extend his marvelous career beyond Germany. Off late, Bayern has defeated Arsenal in Champions League quarter-final first-leg. Perhaps, Savage also predicted Champions league final as a 1999 repeat between Bayern Munich and Manchester United. However, he did not forecast anything about the winner of Champions league.
Anyways, no matter how Bayern Munich performs either in Bundesliga or in Champions league; all eyes will be on Jupp and his future career if he receives an offer to replace Arsenal boss. Even though, he has had a prolonged career but his golden era was in sixties and seventies when he won several titles for his then club Borussia Monchengladbach. Even for his current club, he has won two German championship titles, and if he manages to win one more, it would take him much ahead of any other player in terms of maximum number of successes.
