AC Milan’s president and owner: Silvio Berlusconi, who is also a former Italian Prime Minister, has been sentenced to four years of imprisonment over a tax evasion case, though; his sentence has already been reduced to one year. Berlusconi’s trail, who is the longest running Prime Minister post-war, and his indictment could mean lots of ups and downs in Milan’s financial health. At the moment, Berlusconi is planning to appeal against the order, yet it is confirmed that he is a convicted of tax frauds in Italy now. The 76 year old richest Italian was not in the court room at the time of the sentence and said judgment also debarred him for holding any public office for next three years. The reduction in his initial sentence from four years to one year has nothing to do with his position, but it is granted according to amnesty laws of Italy that describe means of relaxing overcrowded prisons in Italy.
Despite the sentence, it is very much likely that he will not be sent to prison citing his age of 76 years. Laws in Italy say that any convicted cannot be sent to Jail if he is above 70 years of age. Notably, said case ran for as long as six years, and this delayed was caused by his prime ministerial position wherein he was immunized for any investigation, but after his resignation last November over Italian National debts crises, his tax evasion case proceeded faster, and a sentence is now passed against him.
AC Milan is yet to pass any comment about its president’s conviction, and if rumors are to be believed, there are very low chances that anyone from Milan’s camp will come forward and say anything about this judgment. Since, his lawyers have already scheduled to appeal against his conviction by November 30; it is very much likely that he will be granted a bail based on a promoted legislation by Berlusconi himself that prevents any person over seventy years of age to be sent to jail. Besides, there are other cases in action for his alleged involvement in under aged sex scandals, and if those cases are also decided quickly, there could be another setback for him and his business empire including his soccer interests. On the other hand, Rossoneri is busy in preparation for their next match in Serie A against Genoa on Saturday, and they will try to be as relaxed as they have always been.
