Chelsea could have been one of the biggest discoveries for newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho who started the season brilliantly and carried it across English and European front. But, this is also a fact that his highly confident side, practically, does not have any chance to triumph any of the two titles. Recently, they were ousted from the Champions League thanks to the brilliant save from their own goalie they loaned to Atletico Madrid. Mourinho himself took that save like an ‘impossible’ one that not only dented their title hopes but also fed them their own medicine. There have been many criticisms off late when Blues raised an objection for Atletico to use its loaned players for the matches against parent side as it would be against the contract that does not allow any such participation, but when UEFA ruled out any apparent violation along with warning league side to dare imposing any penalty over Spanish side, it became clear that future loan transfers would now see a dramatic change and every side would thoroughly scan all the forthcoming games among the both sides before initiating any loan transfer, specifically if a side is allowed to use loaned players against parents side. Anyways, for now, Chelsea paid the price of blindly sending their good players to other sides.
Actually, the bigger question is if Chelsea can triumph in domestic league? Answer is actually No, coz both City and Liverpool have a better goal difference to North London side so even if it wins its two remaining games, they cannot surpass any of them if any points’ tie happens. Talking about the European exit, former Everton manager said, “One minute in the second half decided everything. A minute where the Atletico goalkeeper makes an impossible save to a John Terry header then the penalty that kills the game.
“After that there was only one team with morale high, knowing with half an hour left they had control. For about 60 minutes, we had the game, but semi-finals and important matches are made of details and this was a very important detail. Congratulations to them because they are a very good side and what they are doing in the Spanish league is fantastic.”
Indeed, Mourinho has been the most unfortunate manager in European tours coz he has missed the UEFA trophy at the same stage in all three previous occasions when he was with Real Madrid. Portuguese football manager further added, “I can’t be critical with a group of players that from day one is giving everything, trying everything. With problems with injuries, suspensions, with players that cannot play in the Champions League, I’m proud of them.”
