Like always, the last day of summer transfer window is going to bring maximum number of players into English soil than any other day and this year is no exception as we have almost every club eager to finalize the deals on the last moment. Arsenal is one such side who has until been skeptical to spend money to bring new players but they capitalized the first available opportunity to bring in their long time aspiring Spanish striker Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna. Although the latest signing is being taken as the part of a big plan by manager Arsene Wenger and after he succeeded in catching Germany international Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia, it was unexpected he would be eying on Perez in the last stage of summer transfer window. As far Perez form is concerned, he has been in good form in last Spanish domestic season with as many as seventeen goals into his name and reportedly Gunners have triggered his £17 million release clause last week to strengthen their forward line. Like everyone, Wenger also expects 27-year-old to replicate his last season form in the English season where he will get better exposure.
Talking about their newest arrival, 66-year-old French boss said on club official website, “He’s not only a goal scorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs. He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year.”
Likewise, Pérez as well shared his exaggeration on being associated with the Emirate side and how excited he is for his future playing at central Europe, he said, “As always in football, clubs have to evaluate what they need, but they showed interest when they got in contact. Things happened more quickly towards the end of the window so it could be made official. I’m delighted. It’s a massive step in my career to come to a club with the history and quality that Arsenal have and be able to play in competitions like the Premier League and the Champions League. I’m very proud and happy to be here.
“I played as a striker for most of my career but I can adapt to any of the four positions across the front line. I prefer playing as a striker but I have no problem playing anywhere up front. I’m a pacy player. I like to link up and combine with my teammates, playing one-twos to work a shot. I don’t want to put myself in a box, I hope that the Arsenal fans can see for themselves and enjoy watching me. I want to show what I’m about, get stuck into playing and perform well.”
