English Premier League is counting its days and so its leaderboard’s final positions. Top two positions are almost fixed with their takers while a fight is still on for the third and fourth places in the league. There are three contenders for these two positions who are close to each other: Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham. These three teams are almost equal with their points; however, Arsenal has played 36 matches while Chelsea has played two matches less than it. So, at the moment, Arsenal and Chelsea have occupied the third and fourth places while Tottenham is at fifth place with an equal number of points as Chelsea. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has in-fact warned other two teams that they are up for a good fight to survive in the top four which can give them a birth in UEFA Champions League. Their confidence level is even higher after their 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers; the only goal of the match was fired by Theo Walcott in just twentieth second of the game – fastest in the league. Actually, Arsenal has shown its comeback in last eight matches winning six of them while remaining two were ended in a draw.
Arsenal has actually put a pressure on Chelsea to win its next couple of matches, coz only then they can overcome Arsenal to remain in the top four. Wenger said about his mind game with Chelsea that “I don’t know how much but it puts you under pressure because you have to make a result. We are up for it. We are ready for a fight and the team is highly focused to do it. We are on a very strong run. We definitely have a momentum, if you look at the points we have made compared to two months ago. We are going for it and we make the points. Away from home recently we have won everywhere – at Fulham, at Sunderland, at Swansea, at QPR. Derbies are difficult to win.”
Walcott’s only goal is worth mentioning with the fact that it is the fastest in Arsenal EPL history and fastest by any player this season. Wenger also praises him and added, “We scored early and started well. He is 24 now. He is a mature player. He has improved his finishing. He has improved his ability to resist pressure from the opponents. It was as similar goal to the one he scored on Sunday against Manchester United. After that I felt QPR played with quality, pride and they were fearless.
“You can see that if they had not had to play with fear in the last few months they had the quality to stay in the Premier League. We needed a special focus today to win the game. The points were vital for us today. We couldn’t make any mistakes and that was a bit detrimental maybe to our offensive game.
“They made life difficult for us. We had good focus and good determination. We lacked a few final balls in the final third. Overall, I expected a difficult game and I was not disappointed.”
