After Brazil world cup, demand and expectations from German players went sky high and why not after all every manager expects his world cup teammate to perform exactly in line with his South American show but few teams never come out of their bad luck and league club Arsenal seem to be one of them. The 26-year-old German midfielder Mesut Ozil is one such player who moved to England at over forty million pounds back in 2013 but could do little on the field. Though, he could only play nine games for the new side without any impressive form either and manager Wenger then blamed his knee injury that never led him show his full caliber. But now Frenchman is confident and pleased with recovery of his star German who had been impressive in the last world cup and Wenger wants to see his firing legs again in the second half of the English season.
Experts are calling it too early to bring him in the last eleven especially after looking at his three months long absence from the field, yet manager does not want to weigh these rumors and said, “He is ready. He is hungry. He came back from winning the World Cup at the end of August, even if I gave him the holiday they needed the hunger is artificial. You have to slowly get back and realise how much you miss it — I have had it with players before.
“He is an exceptional football player. He always gives you continuity in your game. He’s a very creative player and ideally you want all your best players available. The advantage of these players — for example Giroud, Koscielny, Debuchy, Ozil — at the moment where most of the players in the league have played 26 or 27 games in their legs, they have four or five. If we can get them ready and fresh and competitive, it can give us a new impulse.”
Explaining his start for the Emirates side that went unnoticed, Wenger added, “I think it has been a frustrating start for him because he hasn’t contributed yet. He had not a convincing start obviously, he only played six games and scored one goal against Aston Villa. Mesut has the opportunity to come back and to contribute to the team, when you’re a football player you want to play games.
“Today he looks hungry and is working extremely hard, pushing himself to the limit of what you can absorb physically to come back. It is not easy for him. Santi is playing very well. It is a fight to get back to his best level.”
Anyways, it would be interested to see if Ozil can help Wenger add Arsenal among top four and qualify for the next Championship league!
