After many debates about his probable transfer, Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has finally decided to stay at where he is – at least for another year. Close sources of the player have revealed that Cole has completed his negotiation to remain at Stamford Bridge for a whopping sum of £10 million though it is not official as yet coz there is no written agreement has been signed upon. But, after reaching on an agreement, new deal’s paperwork is supposed to be completed by next week. Ashley Cole has recently been linked with many clubs of Europe especially when he indicated his end of the term for London club. Notably, the amount agreed upon is the highest paid on per week basis for any player; however Cole could not succeed in securing a long term deal at this price. Even Chelsea is satisfied with the money they are riding on the player as they think he is worth of it, and club insiders said over piles of money they are paying to him, “Ash is getting around £200,000 a week but he is worth every penny. Everyone is pleased it has been sorted at last.
“The agreement is great news for Chelsea — and for Ashley. We keep a world-class player and he gets a good pay rise that keeps him up with the game’s top earners.”
Actually, his one year extension came after club owner Roman Abramovich decided all players over 30 will be given a one year extension though at different prices. Another player whose contract is expiring this season is midfielder Frank Lampard who has crossed 34 years of age but he is not getting any extension from the Blues as per the sources and it looks like he will move to his recently linked up club LA Galaxy.
Actually, the reason for Cole has been offered a luring amount is his current form. Despite his age factor, he is still one of the best left-backs today. Recently, when he was linked up with some big clubs, like PSG and Real Madrid, club fans induced pressure on Chelsea boss to ink down a new extension deal for the player and then back-end negotiations were apparently started to keep him where he is. Cole, who has played 99 matches for England national team has been an integral part of Chelsea ever since he came to them after a controversial makeshift from Arsenal. So, let’s assume that it is not the end of his career at Stamford Bridge.
