Gareth Bale wins both PFA Player of Year and Young Player of the year awards

Tottenham forward Gareth Bale became only the third player to win player of the year award in both categories in the same year. He won both PFA and young PFA in the ceremony concluded in London last night. Earlier, Andy Gray and Cristiano Ronaldo were the only players to take two titles in the same year, and now Bale has added his name into this list. In the main award category, he defeated Liverpool's Luis Suarez and Robin van Persie of Manchester United among others while in young category Bale defeated Hazard, Aston Villa's Christian Benteke, West Brom striker Romelu Lukaku, Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, and Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck. The jubilant midfielder said after receiving the honor that “It's a massive honour. To be voted by your peers is one of the biggest things in the game. It's great to win it and I am delighted. “When you look at the list there are some massive names on it and the other nominees have been unbelievable this year, but I couldn't have … [Read more...]

Barcelona would have to wait another week for La Liga title

April 29, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Barcelona is leading the La Liga leaderboard with a good eleven points’ margin from its closest rival Real Madrid, but their wait for the crown is yet extended by their arch rival Real when they defeated their city-mate Atletico Madrid by 2-1. The pushed delay is further extended by Barcelona himself when they drew with Athletic Bilbao by 2-2. Last few matches of the league were not so much significant as far series title winner is concerned, coz Barca is probably the winner this season; it is all about when they will be crowned their triumph coz they still have to play five games in the series. Real Madrid last clash with Atletico was perhaps their great contribution to delay Barca title race coz it was their win which made them gain full points and Barca draw which restricts them with half points and both these results significantly delayed the title ceremony for the Camp Nou club. Madrid win was actually their best attempt to prove why they are considered as the arch rival of … [Read more...]

Arsenal to offer a guard of honor for Manchester United

April 28, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Besides all the inhuman mistakes soccer players make in soccer matches, it is still a game of gentlemen, and it is again proven by the guard of honor many clubs offer to other teams who have recently won a title trophy. The tradition is running since long and this time it was Manchester United’s turn to accept the honor after winning EPL title. First one to accept their march is Arsenal, whose manager Arsene Wenger says that his team will offer a guard of honor in favor of United before Sunday’s match at Emirates Stadium for their valuable win in the EPL. It is a good tradition to respect the teams for their hard work and great performances throughout the tournament which made them a title holder. Wenger said, “I want the traditions of English football to be respected.” Actually, this is not the first time a team is doing this; perhaps Manchester United was probably the first team to offer their salute to winning teams. It did this back in 1991 to Arsenal at Highbury and then to … [Read more...]

Cameron reacts to Suarez ban

April 28, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

There have not been many cases in the soccer world where British Prime Minister had to come forward to clarify something happened on the football field. Recently, when Liverpool striker Luis Suarez bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a match, it was like a bizarre event occurred on the ground, and since then, there have been many comments being passed by various notables about the incident. English FA said that a basic three matches ban is no enough while Cameron questioned the independency of the hearing panel and said earlier this week: “I think it would be very understandable if took into account the fact that high-profile players are often role models.” Now, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has come forward in defense of his striker and criticized both FA and Cameron’s remarks over the hearing panel. Actually, Suarez has been slapped with a ten matches ban for his shameful act which looks to be more than required considering the past incidents of similar kinds. … [Read more...]

Vilanova to stay with Barca despite his health concerns

April 27, 2013 by 888Scoreonline

Barcelona head coach Tito Vilanova has been subjected to countless speculations about whether he would be returned healthy or whether he will continue with the club coz his injury was showing no sign of improvement in the last one year. He went through a surgery for his throat cancer and then an extensive chemotherapy session back in the New York, he returned back staying 10 weeks there and joined the club just recently. Barcelona playing experience has been with little ups and downs during his absenteeism when his assistants Jordi Roura and Aureli Altimira took the charge as first Barca coaches. Overall, Barca won eight matches out of thirteen played without their head coach in last one year and this performance shows a little scope for him to resign and concentrate on his health, but the rumor has been rubbished by Vilanova when he said he will stay with Barca in the next season too. Tito joined The Catalan side back in June 2012 when he replaced his boss Pep Guardiola and he has … [Read more...]
