Ex-Flamengo goalie convicted of killing ex-girlfriend
In one of the scariest incidents happened to soccer fraternity, one former Brazilian goalie is found guilty of killing his girlfriend, and more importantly, brutally dismembering her body which was never found to investigating officers. He is sent to jail for a term exceeding 22 years by a city court headed by seven judges, including five women and two men. Earlier, it was expected that even a longer sentence would be given to him, but according to judges, his sentence is reduced coz of his confession of doing such a crime, moreover, he can also get more letup during sentence depending upon his behavior in first four to five years in jail. In Brazil, anyone can only be sent behind the bars for a maximum period of thirty years, and since Bruno was already in jail for a forced abortion of her girlfriend, his sentence has been decided accordingly. Bale suspended for second-leg Inter return match
Star Tottenham Hotspur striker Gareth Bale will have to see the second leg match against Inter Milan from stands coz of his diving practices which ultimately offered him a ban for the next match. He is banned for his diving into the box in retaliation to a challenge from Walter Gargano in the first half of first leg match between two teams. This is not the first time, he has been shown a yellow card for his diving habit; perhaps he has also been booked for same reason in two group matches against NK Maribor and Panathinaikos which has now increased his yellow cards’ count to six off late. Women Soccer: FIFA seek clarification over Nigerian ban on lesbian players
There have been several occasions in the past when FIFA has been listened saying that whatever a player does in a private room, is his personal matter. It includes player’s sexual preferential as well. Recently, Nigeria Women's Professional League chairperson Dilichukwu Onyedinma said through a newspaper that any player who is found indulged in lesbianism will be disqualified. Such a personal attack is taken seriously around the world; hence many reputed organizations wrote a joint letter to FIFA general secretary Jérôme Valcke asking its intervention on the matter. The organizations which signed the letter include presidents of the Federation of Gay Games, European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation, Football v Homophobia, and AllOut.org. The letter took the references of FIFA president’s speech where he said, “sexual orientation of a player or coach is a private matter. Ryan Giggs plays 1000th league appearance
Thirty nine year old United’s midfielder Ryan Giggs finally became probably the only player in recent times to play 1000 competitive matches. Untied last played match against Real Madrid was the benchmark for him where he actively participated and achieved this magic figure. Actually, the game of soccer has become harder to survive in, especially for mature players, perhaps a player with a thirty plus age is often considered as a retired one, but Giggs changed this old belief and managed to remain fit to play up to this milestone.
