Lucrative items are saleable like a hot cake in soccer and it applies to human beings as well. Apart from top performing players, managers and coaches are not out of this theory and that is why every club wants to secure its most demanding assets for as long as it can. German club Borussia Dortmund is one such club who is finding it difficult to keep a hold on its head coach Jurgen Klopp. Though, they have a sealed contract to retain him until 2018, but still many high ranking European clubs are apparently firing their bullets to take him to their side. In fact, 46-year-old coach never said anything about his intentions to leave Westfalenstadion; perhaps he also signed a contract extension recently to knock his shoes in Germany until 2018, but media has continuously been linking him with some top money rollers of the game off late; hence BVB has offered him an extension again and this time to preserve him for another two years. His assistant is also a part of contract extension and will assist him until he is at Dortmund.
Klopp is not a new name in Germany perhaps he has been associated with Dortmund since 2008. He immediately proved his worth for the club by winning them Bundesliga title just three seasons later. In recent years too, his coaching style has been on the radar of many clubs and how can we forget his magnificent spell last season where Dortmund finishes as the runner up. Besides, they were just beaten up by Bavarians in the final of the Champions League, so he is an eye candy in soccer fraternity right now. Hans-Joachim Watzke, club’s general manager, said on the occasion, “Since you should never separate that which belongs together, we’ve extended the contract of our head coach and his team once again.”
If we look at their performance this season, they have won eight out of ten played matches that placed them second on the leaderboard – just behind Bayern München. However, looking at their form, they are likely to lead the tally as the difference is just of one point among the top two. Michael Zorc, club’s director of sport, acknowledges his importance for them and said, “He’s the perfect coach for Dortmund.”
Klopp also affirms his commitment for the club and said, “We’re all still just a little bit in love with this club and the way things are progressing here.”
