US national soccer team’s first goalkeeper Tim Howard has broken his two back bones recently; hence it is very much unlikely that he can come back very soon on the field. Further, his club Everton has also signaled his injury’s gravity by outing him for several weeks and informed about it via its official website. Everton manager David Moyes announced there that the American player would miss a long period of time, though, he did not mention the timeframe he may take to come back coz, for him, he is a goalkeeper and needs to jump frequently; hence his comeback is only possible if he gets fully fit. Actually, Tim’s injury is also a bad news for his own national team who is going to play few crucial world cup qualifier matches in next couple of weeks, and this injury would surely put a dot on the his chances to play in them.
Citing the urgency, former goalkeeper Brad Friedel has been called upon who has retired from international soccer back in 2005 and currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur in Europe. He recently gave his vote of confidence via twitter in favor of Brad Guzan and also mentioned that in case, Guzan is not available for some reasons, he would like to rope back on his international duty. Notably, he has been the first US goalkeeper during 2002 world cup qualifier also; hence he is well experienced to take the crucial job.
On the other side, Everton manager David Moyes further briefed about Tim’s injury and said, “Tim is out against Wigan. He has broken two bones in his back. We don’t think he will be out for the season. I read that Coloccini could be out for seven weeks but we are not sure how long Tim will be out for because, obviously with a goalkeeper, he has to dive around and hit the ground.
“I have let him go away for a few days. It might be that, if everything goes well, he misses next week’s game as well and then because of the international break he might be close after the rest because that would be four weeks.
“He has two fractures, but they are not bones that are supporting anything. It is off the spine. They are not weight-bearing. It just needs a bit of healing time. It is not like a pure fracture where you need to wait to look at it. It is a question of whether he can cope with the pain. The bones will heal themselves but it’s not good.”
