Biting seems to be in fashion these days that is why more and more players are being tracked down for doing inhuman things thanks to Suarez who started the trend to attack with mouth if found anything irritating. In last league match between Chelsea and Everton such an incident happened where Chelsea star Branislav Ivanovic found grabbing McCarthy around his throat and tried throttling him. The incident happened just before Willian hit a last minute winner keeping Blues leads to seven points on the top of the leaderboard and surprisingly Ivanovic is the same player who has been a victim of such bite attempt from none other than man with golden jaws: Suarez. Many are calling for a strict action to avoid any such happening again in the soccer field. Notably, Suarez faced a lengthy ban for his third biting attempt in the world cup and if anything similar happens to Chelsea star if would be a setback for manager to keep the momentum until the end of English topflight and for this reason he avoided media questions relating to the happening that was caught through video footages.
In post-match news conference everyone was eagerly waiting to listen how Portuguese defends his player but former Everton manager decided to avoid media queries and when reporters kept asking his opinion, he threatened to walk out of the meet. However, what he said about the game is. “I’m concerned with my reaction because one more question and I will leave. They made lots of fouls, what you would call intelligent fouls, but if the referee follows the rule it’s yellow card after yellow card and then inevitably you get a red card — which they eventually did.
While, expectedly, Everton manager Roberto Martinez is calling it a biased decision from the referee and alleged, he expected a Red Card for the defender, he said, “If you look at the images Ivanovic’s behaviour is wrong. He grabs him around the neck in a forceful manner then puts his head against him when James McCarthy didn’t react, and if you want to be on top of the laws that’s a red card.”
This is not the first time players were found clashing with each other personally as we have seen these kinds of deeds many times in the past, but biting is perhaps the new phenomenon in soccer and FA should take concrete step to make sure nothing like this should be repeated again. It would be interested to see how disciplinary committee takes the incident.
