Brazil hails its sovereignty in Confederation Cup by defeating its closest rival Spain by a comprehensive 3-0 margin. It was a magnificent show of brilliant soccer by whole Brazilian team where their defense never let Spanish strikers equalize their lead. Notably, Fred was the man to watch for coz he scored first goal of the match in just 90 seconds of the game. It was third consecutive confederation cup for Latin Americans and they almost crushed Spain who was unbeaten for last 29 matches. Neymar also shined in front of eighty thousands applauded spectators by scoring his brilliant left foot goal in forty fourth minute of the game. Spain got some good chances but it could not capitalize on any of those, in fact, a sure shot penalty shot was missed by Sergio Ramos that made his team’s position even more miserable. Fred fired again in the early moments of the second half by scoring his second goal of the match in forty seventh minute. In fact, the whole Maracana stadium echoed with chants ‘the champions are back’ hailing their stars for a greatest attempt to show their dominion in world soccer. Moreover, it raised an alarming bell for other teams ahead of less than twelve months of upcoming world cup.
Last time, Brazilian team lost a home final was in 1975, moreover; Spain has not beaten Brazil in any competitive match, home or away, since 1934, so Brazilian team was true to their historical record. Analysts have rated Spain more than Brazil before match, but when Fred gave an initial lead to his team; even bookies changed their odds in Brazil’s favor looking at the pace of the game. Brazil coach Luiz Felipe, who just returned to his world cup winning side, said after the match, “We played four world champions and now we have a little bit more confidence and that is what we wanted. The players were wonderful today. I used the players I wanted to and none of them let me down.”
On the other side, Spanish coach accepted his defeat though he blamed initial few minutes of both halves for their miserable loss, he said, “We had a bit of bad luck in the opening minutes of each half but I don’t want to make any excuses, they were better and that’s that. They possibly had a bit more energy than us. Instead of being 1-1 we went 2-0 down in the last moments of the first half. But I don’t think that right now we can analyse details. They were superior and that’s it.”
So, congratulate Brazil for their waving triumph in the world cup warm up tournament and wait for next June when they will again enter into the field with same army of powerful strikers.
