US and FC Dallas midfielder Brek Shea will miss the field for at least three months after his foot surgery. His right foot surgery completed successfully on Thursday where a sesamoid bone has been removed from his right foot. Since, it was a major surgery; it would require at least 12 to 14 weeks or three months to recover fully. Next three months mean; he would be out for current season, but good news is that he will be available for US national team before the next year’s session. The 22 years old starlet has as many as 15 US international caps along with 21 club caps. Moreover, he has fired three goals and assisted two others in his 21 club games while last year; he had 11 goals to his name. Since, he missed the last month of current season due to his abdominal strain coming from his foot injury, he could not surge in his goal count to catch his last year’s performance.
His injury also made him to miss two world cup qualifiers for US national soccer team. Anyways, the next round of world cup qualifiers will begin in February 2013 and by then, he is expected to be available for both US national team and his club FC Dallas. As scheduled, US will have to play fourth and final round of world cup qualifiers on February 6 in Honduras. Fourth round’s official draw was held last Wednesday at W South Beach hotel Miami Beach by CONCACAF. According to draw, US has to play its first and last game on the road. Last round’s top three teams will have a sure place in coming world cup while fourth place holder will have to clash with Oceania region’s winner in a home and away playoff series to secure another seat at the world cup.
Among all the matches, US clash with Mexico is much awaited and assumedly be tougher for US though US defeated Mexico in its own den in last August. For the sake of record, US has been continuously participating in the FIFA world cup since 1986, and this time too, it is very much expected that US will secure its place through forth round of world cup qualifiers. Anyway, Shea’s availability on the right time will boost players’ confidence level to a new high whereby Shea can also expect more international caps via world cup matches.
