Some players are born to remain with a club they like the most, and English footballer Leon Britton is one such player who again extended his contract with his favored club Swansea City. He has been playing for them since 2002, though he started his career at Liberty Stadium on loan from West Ham United back in 2002, and apart from one occasion when he played at Sheffield United for a short spell, he is being consistently associated with Swansea. Perhaps, he is on the bank of crossing 500 match appearances for the club. His passion and loyalty for the club made him one of the key personnel at The Jacks, even some of his best match performances made his club to achieve many feats in the EPL. According to his current deal; he is to stay with Swansea until summer 2016 which would eventually mark the end of his career – a perfect finish which he always wanted. He shared his joy on remaining with his desired club until the end, he said over the official club website, “I’m delighted. I know I’ve said it before, but I would love nothing more than to finish my career here.”
He also added, “The club has been my life for the last 10 years, apart from a six-month sabbatical at Sheffield United, of course, and there’s no other place I’d rather be playing my football.
“I never expected things to turn out the way they have when I returned from Sheffield two years ago.
“The club was in the Championship at the time and there was certainly no guarantee of promotion. But we went straight up into the Premier League, have established ourselves in our second season and we are now looking forward to our first major cup final.”
He also hinted about his dream to complete 500 matches for the club, actually he is quite sure that if he stays in there until 2016, he would surely set many more landmarks for the club. He said, “The target for me has always been 500 appearances. That will really be something special for me.
“I’d like to think I can keep performing regularly in the first team for a few more seasons yet. It’s probably for others to say, but personally I believe I am playing the best football of my career.”
His earlier deal was until 2015 which he signed last year, and now he further stretched his stay at Liberty Stadium for good reasons – of course!
