Cagliari vs. Roma, Roma awarded default 0-3 win

September 25, 2012 by 888Scoreonline

Cagliari 0 – 3 Roma

Few days back, news about Roma and Cagliari spread in soccer world where their match was postponed for on-ground security reasons in Serie A. Now, unfortunately that match has been forfeited by the authorities for the same reason and Roma has been rewarded default win with a comprehensive 0-3 margin. This is probably the first time in current Serie A where a match has been abandoned completely and a team has been given a benefit out of it. Basically, as told on several occasions, the stadium Is Arenas is the main reason for this match’s postponement on two occasions. When match could not be passible on Sunday, authorities decided to cancel the match and declare Roma as winner. Is Arenas and its home crowd is known for its misconducts, security breach, and uncontrolled hooting, even we have seen this ground does not have proper security arrangements to control out of control crowd which has been proven on several occasions in the past.

Due to this fact, the scheduled match was planned to be played behind the closed gates where no spectator could enter or see the live match. But, Sardinian club was not apparently willing to follow the authority’s instructions, it, in fact, provoked its fans to come and join the match defying what authorities are saying. This could lead to a serious security problem for authorities and local police, so in the interest of the game, said match has been abandoned and Roma is declared as the winner.

The action has been taken place according to Article 17 of the rules that govern Italian football, it states, “Clubs are responsible for the fact that any acts interrupting the smooth running of a game can be punished with the loss of that match with a scoreline of 0-3 awarded.” It was the Monday when Federcalcio took the matter seriously and followed its code of conducts and rewarded Roma their deserved victory. Later, Luigi Riva described this Roma’s victory as the saddest moment in Cagliari’s history where club got a defeat without even hitting a kick. Even Roma is not completely happy with its uninvited win yet scores are all that matter in a league like Serie A.

Crowd misbehavior or even players’ safety is what authorities take on seriously these days, and this match could be the path setter for future spectators who break the guidelines and show their mismanaged behaviors.
