There are many managers who made exaggerated promises when join a big club, but later, fail to deliver hence face the anger from every corner. We have seen what is happening with Manchester United manager, but things are not that bad for their arch rival Manchester City and its manager Manuel Pellegrini who just won the first title of the season, in fact first in Europe, and more importantly, first silverware under new leadership. The highly optimistic Chilean football manager had said when joined the English biggie that he would win at least four titles in the first season and standing by his words he got the debutant crown to prove his confidence. They defeated Sunderland by 3-1 in the final of Capital One Cup and Yaya Touré, Samir Nasri, and Jesús Navas were the goal scorers for them while Fabio Borini scored the first goal for The Rokerites. Pellegrini called this win as an important to take their momentum to the Premier league where they were once at number one and now at number four. Moreover, experts are now counting on his words which prove why he was the perfect replacement for Roberto Mancini. He also praised players’ confidence to win the title until the end – something that they were missing in the last year’s FA Cup.
Talking about their moral status, 60-year-old Chilean said, “Of course it gives us a lot of confidence to us because when you have a chance to win a title, if you don’t do it, maybe your mind stays the same way. We are the only club that has the chance to continue trying to win all the competitions. If you have a chance to win the first you must do it.
“For such a big team, club as Manchester City, to fail for the second time is not good. They failed last year but today i think they was very important to win.”
Promising Pellegrini even said that this is their first not the last silverware of the season and added, “We are going to try. We know it’s not easy, we have respect for Wigan, we remember what happened last year. I think that we are going to evaluate the season when it ends in May. We want to take just one trophy but I don’t think that no one can think that that is enough. Why? We have to win Wigan next Sunday, then Wembley semifinal, but if we didn’t win it we must have a good evaluation about what we are doing that is wrong, and where we can improve.”
