Former English captain John Terry is the one figure who got maximum publicity from his act of racial abuse against QPR defender Anton Ferdinand last year. He had to forgo his captaincy along with four matches’ suspension. Though, he was later cleared by Westminster Magistrates Court, but English FA did not forgive him and continued his four matches’ domestic ban. Terry, who retired from international soccer last September, still remembers the trauma he had to face coz of an unjustified ban imposed by English FA. Michael Carrick is shortlisted for PFA player of the year
Professional players association just issued their last six nominated players of the year which includes Manchester United’s Michael Carrick. This player of the year award has ever been one of the most prestigious awards in soccer fraternity even since it started forty years ago. The highlight of this honor is its independent selection process where professional players vote for their favorite players and no player can cast for his own club’s player. This year, Manchester United Michael Carrick is the probable name to win the title. The midfielder has played more than 350 EPL matches along with more than 50 UEFA matches and this is probably the first time he has been nominated for this award. Stiliyan Petrov feels like a survivor after being diagnosed with leukemia
EPL club Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov feels like a survivor after being diagnosed with leukemia, a rare disease that affects white blood cells which are responsible for strength in our immune system. He is not the first one in contemporary soccer to be identified with such a kind of disease; earlier Barcelona head coach has also been diagnosed with throat cancer for which he is still going treatment after two surgeries in last two years. Leukemia is also considered a kind of cancer which can be cured if treated properly, though it also depends upon the age of the person affected. FA Cup final to kick off at 5.15pm
VS. A live telecast generates higher revenue than live spectators, this is known to everyone, but this is probably the first time when FA has rescheduled a final match just to facilitate its broadcasters rather caring about thousands of fans who want to return home on the same day. FA cup final is scheduled to play between first timer Wigan and Manchester City and this match is expected to be full of entertainment coz of Wigan, who is in fine form, and City, who is also looking to win its second trophy in last three seasons. As confirmed by FA, this year’s FA cup final will be kicked off on 5.15pm leaving no room for fans to return back if match goes into the extra time. Newcastle urges life ban for fans responsible for violence
Soccer is only a game of sport, but for many it is much more than mare a sport, and that is why soccer fans across the world found losing control whenever their teams lose an important match. We have seen many cases of desperate retaliations from crowd, including few which were very serious and a threat to internal homeland security. Recently, Newcastle fans showed their aggression which resulted in a massive violence in the ground. This violence was perhaps not the first last week, coz Millwall fans also displayed how short tempered they are when it comes to accepting a defeat. Though, the violence was criticized by everyone including English FA, and now Newcastles has asked for a life ban for all those fans who found responsible for such a massive ferocity which injured many fans including a bloody woman and few police officers.
