Sir Alex Ferguson unhappy with TV sponsors’ control over EPL schedules

Maybe EPL is the best and reputed soccer league in the world, but there are many other leagues where these English clubs are long trying to make an impact. European Champion league is one such league which has ever been on the target of top EPL clubs. Moreover, the timings of both these leagues are apparently same; hence many times, it happens when a club does not get enough time to prepare for its next match of another league. Since, matches’ schedules are drafted in consultation with sponsors, especially TV sponsors, most of the teams face a tight schedule but they never spoke anything about it openly. Now, one of the most prestigious and successful soccer manager Sir Alex Ferguson has come forward and spoke loudly about the control these TV sponsors have developed on EPL or any other league for that matter. Manchester United has always been a toughest team to beat at English soil, but in other European leagues, its position is rather different, and now, United’s manager Alex … [Read more...]

Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher set to retire after 2012-13 season

One of the most respectable characters in Liverpool’s team Jamie Carragher has announced his retirement post this season. He is not only leaving Liverpool club but also Liverpool by making a shift to somewhere else. He has played more than 723 league matches for Liverpool since he made his debut back in 1997 and record wise he is the second most played Liverpool players of all time – just few matches less than all-time great Ian Callaghan who holds the record of playing a maximum number of matches for English club. Besides, he has also played around 38 matches for his national team. Actually, he has never been so popular for his soccer skills; perhaps he has always been an average player with limited skills of surprise flicks, but his honesty and character is something that is memorable about him. He started his career at Liverpool as a trainee back in 1994 and in just three years; he could play for the club’s A-team. He played more than 700 matches for Liverpool that is a record … [Read more...]

Neymar vs. Messi, who’s the best

There have always been many different views about who is the ruling champion of soccer. While most of us have a strong feeling that Messi is the undisputed king of today’s football, if not of all time, but ex-Brazilian legendry Pele has a different opinion about the best soccer player of the world title, and that is, his own national, young and promising, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, known as just Neymar. Just few days ago, UEFA’s investigators hinted about more than 500 matches which were assumingly fixed, but they did not name any of the players or matches that time. Now, a match is being specified by Europol as suspected to be fixed, and that was Liverpool’s Champions Leagues clash with Hungarian club Debrecen back in 2009. Reportedly, Debrecen goalie Vukasin Poleksic had been approached by bookmakers before two of their matches, but he did not inform UEFA about those offers. Later, he also faced the disciplinary actions by European governing body for not reporting an important incident to them, and consequently, he was banned for two years in 2010, but at that time, UEFA did not reveal the exact reasons for his ban. Now, it is being flashed out by the media that it was the consequence of Europol’s match fixing investigations. Even Liverpool earlier denied being aware of any such investigations about any of their matches. Their spokesman said, “We have had no contact from Europol or … [Read more...]
