Some players are born to remain with a club they like the most, and English footballer Leon Britton is one such player who again extended his contract with his favored club Swansea City. He has been playing for them since 2002, though he started his career at Liberty Stadium on loan from West Ham United back in 2002, and apart from one occasion when he played at Sheffield United for a short spell, he is being consistently associated with Swansea. Perhaps, he is on the bank of crossing 500 match appearances for the club. His passion and loyalty for the club made him one of the key personnel at The Jacks, even some of his best match performances made his club to achieve many feats in the EPL. According to his current deal; he is to stay with Swansea until summer 2016 which would eventually mark the end of his career – a perfect finish which he always wanted. He shared his joy on remaining with his desired club until the end, he said over the official club website, “I'm delighted. I know … [Read more...]
Manchester City and PSG are under scanner for financial fair play violations
Two money rolling clubs Manchester City and Paris St Germain are under scanner of UEFA for their misconducts over financial fair play policy compliances. UEFA, reportedly, has warned these clubs to prove they are not cheating via inflating their income by signing sponsorship deals with owners’ associates companies. Notably, both clubs have signed some big sponsorship deals last year, and most of these deals were belonged to their owners’ sister concerns, which means, according to UEFA, these clubs are fictitiously inflating their income to gain more buying power in transfer windows, which further lays unfair playing field for others. UEFA reports these presumed violations in its annual report published recently where it suspected there are around 46 clubs covering 22 European countries who would need to prove their money flow in the past year. City’s recent deal worth £400million with Etihad airline is under scanner coz its Abu Dhabi-based owners have a controlling stake in the … [Read more...]
European investigators find 680 fixed matches
In one of the shocking findings by the European Union’s joint police body, there are more than 680 matches that were fixed in one way of another. While more than half of them happened in European soil, rests are related to other parts of the world, including Africa, America, and Asia. Moreover, these fixed matches are not confined to few soccer events; perhaps they cover every popular soccer league and tournament, like World Cup, European Championship qualifiers and Champions League matches. This is perhaps the most alarming single to all the fans of soccer, and more importantly, investigators have also said that there would be more findings once they carry on their investigations. Rob Wainwright, the head of Europol who is doing the investigations, said, “This is a sad day for European football, and more evidence of the corrupting influence of organized crime.” He also added that criminals were gaining money from soccer fixing on a large scale. Accordingly, there are players, … [Read more...]

Roma sack manager Zdenek Zeman
The current Serie A spell of Italian club Roma is not going smoothly; perhaps they are still missing a win after playing five matches and laying on the eight spot on the leaderboard. Their recent surprising defeat to Cagliari by 4-2 on Friday stunned the think tanks of the club; the loss required an urgent step and righty so club director held a crucial meeting and took a bold step by firing manager Zdenek Zeman all of a sudden. Zeman spent just seven months at Stadio Olimpico, and more interestingly, he was one of the favorite managers when he joined Roma last season coz he had already coached them in early nineties. This time, it looks Roma players could not match up his attacking style of play which even made Roma defense more vulnerable. This is exactly what happened with him when he was hired by the club in 1990s. Now, there seems to be no hope for him to coach any other big soccer club citing his bad track record off late. Anyways, performance is what matters in soccer today, and … [Read more...]
