Finally, D-day arrived and results were much predictable when Argentinian star footballer Lionel Messi won his much awaited fourth Ballon d'Or award in Zurich. He beats other two finalists: his arch rival Portuguese Ronaldo and his own club teammate Andres Iniesta. The award made him a special record holder by winning four consecutive Ballon d'Or trophies. Last night event looked like a formality for him coz he was the favorite of everyone who knows what he achieved last year. However, the award was based on voting from international coaches, captains and journalists; hence there is no question of its credibility. Out of total votes cast, Messi got 41.6% of the votes along with Ronaldo who got 23.68% and Iniesta’s 10.91% votes. Messi, who also holds the record of scoring maximum number of goals in one calendar year, has another highly admired medal in his collection. Notably, despite his existence in the team, Barcelona could not win Spanish league title or Champions League last year … [Read more...]
Milan’s walk out row continues; Berlusconi responds angrily to Blatter comment
Last week, Milan showed its unique way of retaliation to racial comments being made over its players by walking out of the field and match had to be abandoned later. There were mixed reviews from all over the world over Milan’s action to tackle racism; some said it was just a friendlier hence Milan did not give due devotion to it; while Milan president was familiar with his team’s stand on the incident. Moreover, Milan president Berlusconi also re-iterated that his team would do the same if there are similar circumstances in the future. The important feedback came from FIFA president Sepp Blatter' who said FIFA is devoted to follow a zero tolerance policy to tackle racism; hence there in no need to run away of the field coz this will not serve any objective in the process of eradicating this devil from the game. Ronaldo gives a tribute to himself
Cristiano Ronaldo is back, perhaps back with a bang! Real Madrid lost two matches in a row, and finally saw the magic of its star striker Ronaldo who scored two fantastic goals in quick succession to crown a much needed win to his club. With this win, Madrid has improved its position in the leaderboard, yet well behind top positioned Barcelona. Both of his goals came in 68th and 70th minute of the game. Despite a powerful performance in the match, Ronaldo faced many criticisms coz of his inconsistence performances which is a little heart breaker for the striker. Expressing his woe on the mixed feedbacks, he said, “Not even God can please everyone. I always try to be a good person who the majority of people like. But showing too much humility is a flaw. People either hate me or love me. I always try and work hard in order to be the best at what I do. In my opinion, everybody should have the objective to be the best at what they do, regardless of his or her profession.” Anyways, life … [Read more...]
Dean Saunders takes charge of Wolves after Luton end Stale Solbakken’s contract
English football club Wolverhampton Wanderers gave a deserving gift to its long time non-performing manager Stale Solbakken by firing him all of a sudden. Perhaps, he joined the team of three managers in less than eleven months, and all of them got the ill treatment just coz their club lost few matches. Doncaster Rovers’ manager Dean Saunders has been appointed to fill his space and he immediately accepted it despite a sign of warning from retiring manager Solbakken. Solbakken, reportedly, warned him that he will have to face the similar problems as he did in his eleven months’ stay at Molineux. But, Saunders remained unaffected by his warning and spent little time in signing the deal. This is not his first managerial job; perhaps he has served as coach also to several clubs, like Bradford, Blackburn, Newcastle and Wales in the past, hence he thinks he has sufficient reasons to assume his competency for the most challenging job at the club. Saunders, 48 year old, has played for … [Read more...]

Racial chants are back in soccer field, but not on English soil this time. Last week, racial chants caused the abandonment of a friendlier between AC Milan and a lower division club Pro Patria in Italy. Racism has long been a topic of discussion among various soccer community forums and this is probably the first time when a team decided to walk out of a match after racial chants from the crowd. The match between AC Milan and Pro Patria had begun when crowd started chanting against black Milan players; public announcer also requested them to stop doing that but when it continues, Ghana and Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince kicked the ball on the crowd where the chanting was coming from, took off his shirt, and walked away. Soon, other players also joined him and left the pitch. Post incident, as always, everybody seems to be engaged in taking a corrective action and first of them is Italian soccer federation, who promptly announced an immediate inquiry of the matter. On the other hand, … [Read more...]
