Two finest soccer teams are finally here at Maracana to face each other in the Confederation cup 2013 final. Brazil is the host and probably would enjoy more fan support than their European rivals, but we should not forget Spain is the same team who has defeated them in many crucial matches off late and they are also the defending world champions, so it is rather practical to say that stage is all set to see two finest contemporary soccer teams facing each other. Maracana stadium, which is also known as the true cathedrals of the sport, has a capacity of around 80000 spectators along with more than one hundred ground staff personnel, but the match would also be joined by thousands of protesters who are showing their grief on rising prices of daily essentials while government is spending billions of dollars on hosting a sporting event. Actually, protests are being held in various parts of the country to blame mounting world cup hosting bills and their necessity in recessive Brazilian … [Read more...]
England out of Under-20 World Cup
England’s under-20 team again lost an important international event when they were thrown out of U20 world cup by Egypt. They lost by 2-0 and finished on the last place in their group; their defeat gave an indirect advantage to other two teams Iraq and Chile. Actually, England required at least a draw to keep its hopes alive but two late goals from Trezeguet and Hassan Ahmed ruined their odds to go to the knockout stage. It was their third match in the tournament after they drew their first two games. This is, in fact, the worst period going on for young English team coz they have played as many as 16 matches in world cup without even a single win which is a shocking for a team of this caliber. As far U20 world cup journey is concerned, it is full of miserable performances; coz they have not overcome in any WC match since 1997. Known out stage will begin from coming Tuesday when four more teams will be out of the scene. The match was rather a close one for both teams coz no one could … [Read more...]
Blatter offers 100$ million aid for Brazil
Whether anyone believes it or not but a pressure has its effects especially on peoples sitting on the higher seats. Upcoming FIFA world is facing widespread protests across Brazil even since first Confederation cup match kicked off; the demands of protestors are genuine: how can an economically recessive country spend billions of dollars on football infrastructure when thousands of peoples are dying every year for lack of basic healthcare facilities? This time, it holds true in Brazil where ground infrastructure work is way behind of its time while World cup preparation work is going on in full swing. Not to mention how protestors are encircling every confederation match venue to show their solemnity about Brazilian economic issues; perhaps it is still unclear whether final math will be concluded smoothly on Sunday, or not. FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who was showing his confidence to complete Confederation cup along with upcoming world cup without being affected by severe protests, … [Read more...]
Mega showdown lined up between Spain and Brazil in Confederation Cup
In a power pack display of brilliant soccer, Spain beat their close rival Italy by 7-6 in the penalty shootout in the Confederation cup semifinal. The game was a nail biting affair for both the teams, though Italian team was enjoying more fan support than Spanish team for obvious reasons. This is the fourth time Spain could make it to the final of a big international event in last five years which shows how dominating they are in global panorama. Match entered into the penalty shootout when no team could find the post in allotted plus extra time, and even in penalty shootout, first six attempts were also all perfect; it was Jesus Navas who made it a cheering day for Spanish team while Bonucci named himself as the perpetrator for Blues by missing penalty shootout. The whole stadium was jam packed either by spectators or by security personnel coz antigovernment protests have been on peak during the finals, in fact, Sunday final is also expected to face one of the widest nationwide … [Read more...]
Brazil heads to Confederation Cup final
Fred and Paulinho helped Brazil secure a place in Sunday’s final of Confederation Cup 2013. They defeated their Latin American rivals in the semis thanks to Paulinho last minute header that ensured they will either play with Spain or Italy at Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. The match was rather a nail biting one where both teams struggled throughout the match to crack opponents defense, however, Fred could somehow manage to push Neymar’s cross to the goal post in the forty second minute giving his team a much deserving lead. Uruguay was not in a mood to let it go so easily and Edinson Cavani took advantage of an error by Brazil captain Thiago Silva and hit a low shot just six minutes later and equalized the score without wasting much time. It was then a draught of goals from both sides coz both teams did not let opposition find their nets. Goalkeeper Cesar performance is especially noticeable coz he saved first-half penalty convincingly otherwise Uruguay could have a lead right in the … [Read more...]
