Football world cup has ever been a most extravagant event requiring billions of dollars in preparation. Not every country can afford to spend so much amount of money, and if a country still spends this amount in renovating soccer stadiums and other hospitality services rather taking care of their internal health, transport, and other necessities which are important for a common man, a wide protest from public is viable. This is something that is being happened in Brazil – the host of next year’s FIFA world cup. According to recent reports, protests are being demonstrated on several places throughout Brazil showing their grief over politicians’ speedy action plans for hosting world cup rather investing on deteriorating healthcare and ground infrastructure. This is not the first time, protests are being carried on by common peoples of a country demanding better deployment of their limited resources rather hosting a sporting event, but, in Brazil, this is for the first time that peoples … [Read more...]
Balotelli gives a perfect start to Italy in Confederation Cup
1 - 2 Milan’s notorious striker Mario Balotelli gives a perfect start to his national team when he capitalized a penalty area chance and fired a low shot to score the winner for his team in Confederation Cup here in Rio. It was an illuminating night with thousands of fans cheering both the teams but Balotelli, who is often in the news for his non-soccer activities, stole the show during the last moments of the game. Italy won the game with 2-1 margin over Mexico and it was the 100th match for midfielder Andrea Pirlo who scored the first goal of the game in twenty seventh minute. Game started with a sticky note for both the teams as both of them are strong competitors for each other, but psychological advantage went into Azzurri favor when they took the initial lead in first half with Pirlo’s trademark free kick. Mexico offered some resistance in the middle, in fact, striker Javier Hernandez, who plays for Manchester United, helped them equalize the lead within first half … [Read more...]
Under-20 World Cup will go ahead despite violence in Turkey: FIFA
FIFA again shows its commitment about an international event despite ground level disturbances. This time, it shows its assurance to complete the Under-20 World Cup which is scheduled to be started from June 21. Turkey, the co-host of the event, is going through antigovernment riots; perhaps the situation is much tensed there as police is daily using tear gas and water cannons to spread the public. Istanbul, the host of all eleven Turkey’s world cup matches, is the badly affected area where demonstrations are being carried on by mobs throughout the city. It is among seven cities where world cup matches are to be played. Actually, the mob wants the event to be cancelled – something that FIFA is not willing to accept. World governing body has confirmed through a statement that it will allow football association to carry on the event despite severe protests. However, it has also made it sure that players’ safety is most important and adequate safety measures must be taken by the local … [Read more...]
Meet Super Eagles’ squad for 2013 Confederation Cup
Confederation Cup is right on the corner, and every team is trying to choose best of its available talents, but on the other side, there is one team who is equally promoting its young talent along with using its experienced players. Nigeria, who won the Africa Cup of Nations in February, has made nine surprising changes to the team that crowned them Africa’s prestigious title. The newly selected teammates include four players who have never played in an international match before. This is rather a brave attempt from the coach who says his team consist a well needed mixture of both talent and experience. As far Nigerian defense is concerned, coach tries to retain a solid firewall by excluding players like Joseph Yobo, Peter Odemwingie, and Obafemi Martins. Earlier, local media aggressively criticized Coach Stephen Keshi for making a biased decision while selecting players; perhaps some of them even blamed him for choosing players out of his local clubs, while on the other side, coach … [Read more...]
Brazil 3-0 triumph over France in Confederation Cup warm-up match
It was just a warm-up match ahead of next week’s Confederation Cup where Brazil successfully defeated its rival France with a 3-0 margin – something it always wanted since 1992. Notably, Brazil has not beaten France in any international match since a friendly success twenty one years ago. Both these teams have since met six times: two of them ended in a draw while French side taken the lead in four of them and who can forget the 1998 world cup final along with 2006 quarterfinal defeat? France captain Karim Benzema has not done anything interesting this year losing three out of four played matches; perhaps France is on second place to Spain in its world cup qualifying group. Looking at the winning margin, it looks like it would have been a one sided affair, but on the contrary, France was dominating right from the beginning; perhaps it was the second half when Chelsea playmaker Oscar opened the score tally for Brazil from a close range shot. Around 30 minutes later, another Brazilian … [Read more...]
