Before beginning their campaign for the Champions League, Chelsea newly appointed manager Mourinho has expressed his confidence to win the title for the third time after triumphing it playing for Porto and Inter Milan. No one has a doubt over his ability to surprise everyone, as he has done it on two occasions in the past. Despite expecting his team to be a winner this season, he has no obsession for the European silverware or for his new side, yet he wants to take this trophy to North London this season. However, as far his spell with Blues is concerned, he has taken them to semifinals during his last spell at Stamford Bridge, and this time; he has another chance to improve his record on European front. He also expressed his desire to make his new side successful not only in England but in continental competition as well. This could also be his strategic statement to put a pressure before they begin their CL campaign against Basel on Wednesday. What he said before their first CL showdown is, “Let’s see what happens. I have to focus not on the past but on the future. There’s no obsession for me with this competition. No obsession for Chelsea. But I want to win it for a third time, and I want Chelsea to win it for a second time.”
“This is the beginning of a process with us and the Champions League. We made history by winning it two seasons ago. Last year we made history by being the only champions eliminated from the group stage after six matches, and we ended up in a competition we didn’t want to play in. This season we have some players with different experience, but the potential to win it.”
“If we win a match but not in the style we’re trying to build, it’s three points, one step up the table but one step back in the direction of our work. What we want to do is both things at the same time.
“If we’d gone to Everton, had a very bad match and, in the last minute, Leighton Baines had scored an own goal and we’d won 1-0, would we be happy? In normal circumstances, yes, but when you’re trying to build something different? No.”
So, fans are eagerly waiting to see their star soccer brain’s master game plan on Wednesday where everyone would probably welcome him with great expectations.
