Chelsea edges over City at Etihad Stadium

February 4, 2014 by 888Scoreonline

Twists and turns have ever been a Premier league specialty where leaderboard’s top positions keep changing throughout the event. The teams who used to be on the top at the beginning are nowhere around the peak spot in the middle, while teams like Manchester City who started their campaign with not so happy moments are now ruling the table. This is a rather even more interesting to see that other neighbors on the table are now equally favorable to take the league title home and one such team is Chelsea who has been as optimistic campaigner throughout the season as its second term manager would have expected. They are not only the biggest threat for City or even Arsenal, but they are also equally capable of reversing any game. This is what happened in the last night when they defeated City in a nail biting finish. Though, Blues took the lead in the first half itself, but they had to fight throughout ninety minutes to secure their lead and ultimately earn full three points out of the game. It was even a bigger disappointment for City army who has until been claiming their defense as the finest in the current season, otherwise how could Ivanovic find a gap to register a victorious lead.

A defeat is always unexpected and if it comes on the home ground, it is even more shocking, therefore, City, who has won eleven consecutive games at the Etihad Stadium, could not enhance their winning march beyond it. If we look at the gameplay adopted by both the sides, they were aggressive in their approach and tried to edge each other during the game. This is what Mourinho is all about and he seems to be standing by his words that they would won the league title this year.

Chelsea is now parallel to that of City on the leaderboard while Arsenal is on the top and this scenario has been for the last few weeks while Liverpool, the earlier topper of the list, is on the fourth place with six good points away of City and Blues. Now, Pellegrini seems to be under pressure of a good show in next matches to revive their chances in the English topflight, otherwise who knows they need to sit aside in the final countdown. There is another feat registered in Chelsea name, and that is, they are just the second team after Everton to secure two back to back wins against Pellegrini side in the EPL. Eyes would now be on ‘The Special One’ how he sustains this momentum and surges to the top spot on the leaderboard.
